Faux lesbian Katy Perry has surprisingly held onto the No.1 spot on the ARIA singles chart tonight. She fought off the challenge from US pOp/rock band Metro Station and their hit single ‘Shake It’. ‘Shake It’ maintained number one position on the digital sales chart last week, but Katy held on once again in the CD singles stakes. The Pussycat Dolls move back up to No.3, Lady Gaga moves up to the number five position with ‘Just Dance’ and Jason Mraz graces the number seven spot. Meanwhile, Rihanna races up to No.11 with ‘Disturbia’ (with no physical single planned), The Veronicas debut at No.13 with ‘Take Me On The Floor’ (also with no physical release planned), Sneaky Sound System is up to No.14 and Miley Cyrus bullets 16 places to No.22. Elsewhere on the physical singles chart, the only new entry for the week is from New Kids On The Block, who return to the charts at No.23, but fail to trouble the official singles chart.
One the digital singles chart, The Veronicas make their way up to No.11, while Pink splashes her way into the No.13 spot (unlucky for some) with her brand new track ‘So What’, which (as predicted) was rushed to digital release after being leaked on August 07. Brian McFadden’s track ‘Twisted’ belatedly appears at No.36.
And over on the albums chart, no-one seems to be knocking the Mamma Mia soundtrack off the top spot for now, but given early sales of the second Sneaky Sound System album, we may have a new number one album next weekend. In other movements for the week, Jason Mraz is up to No.4, Van She has a top ten album on their hands, Metro Station and Michael Franti occupy positions 17 and 18 respectively and Kid Rock debuts at the halfway point.
Just on the Katy Perry thing, we were thinking during the week, wouldn’t it be pure genius if Sam Sparro covered ‘I Kissed A Girl’ and made it his own…? But just better…?

And Rightly So Too, 2 is just amazing!
I can’t believe there will be no physical release for “Disturbia” and more so “Take Me On The Floor”.
With all the sudden promotion – and the success of “I Kissed A Girl” – “Take Me On The Floor” would have gone number one!
