Here’s a question… Can the combination of a classic Phil Collins hit and a drum-playing gorilla get audiences buying this digital only single in Australia too? It happened in the UK last year when the Cadbury commercial went to air in September last year. The single reached No.14 on the singles charts and No.9 on the digital downloads chart there. It also happened in New Zealand just a few weeks ago, when the single hit No.1 on the official RIANZ charts and the ad has also garnered in excess of 2.7 million hits on Youtube. Warner Music has sent the 1981 classic to radio stations in Australia this week in the hope of replicating the success here, and given the track has made it to No.46 on the iTunes downloads charts already and Cadbury’s campaign is due to run ’til Idol’s end in November, it might just be Australia’s turn to fall under the spell of one sexy, brooding, drum-playing gorilla…
