We don’t normally look at the charts over in the UK, but given the fact most of the Australian music industry will today be in recovery mode following last night’s ARIA awards, we thought we’d give it a guernsey. A huge late-week push to get Peter Kay’s character ‘Geraldine McQueen’ to the top in Britain has failed, with ‘The Winner’s Song’ debuting at No.2 in this week’s UK singles chart. Pink seemingly in no hurry to vacate the UK No.1 position with her single ‘So What’. Even 2007 X Factor winner Leon Jackson’s attempt to discredit ‘The Winner’s Song’ by highlighting the fact it wasn’t for charity fell by the wayside, with his second single ‘Don’t Call It Love’ debuting in the No.3 position. What’s encouraging for pOp fans though is that new girl group ‘The Saturdays’ have found their way into the No.5 position with their second single ‘Up’, while the Sugababes’ new single ‘Girls’ falls from No.3 to No.10. Keane splashes their way into the No.1 spot on the albums chart with new album ‘Perfect Symmetry’.
