British pOp gods the Pet Shop Boys are to be honoured at the 2009 Brit Awards. The duo, who’ve been releasing what is considered by many as the finest pOp music in the world for more than 23 years, will receive the gong for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ at the ceremony, set down for February 18 at Earl’s Court in London. Chairman of the Brit Awards committee, Ged Doherty, said that the songs of the duo had become the soundtrack to many peoples’ lives. “The Pet Shop Boys have become one of the most influential groups of the modern era and are deserving recipients of the award”, he said. Neil and Chris will release a brand new studio album, their tenth, in March.
