SINGLES: It’s another week on top of the ARIA singles chart for Kings Of Leon – they stay in the top spot for the fourth week in a row, but it’s Lady Gaga who’s been seeing the most action this week, with her second single ‘Poker Face’ moving up six places to find it’s way into the No.3 position. The Pussycat Dolls’ latest single ‘I Hate This Part’ enters the top ten for the first time (at No.10). Following it’s No.16 debut last week, Pink’s new single ‘Sober’ has moved further up the chart this week, to No.11 and soft rockers Nickelback debut at No.18 with their new single ‘Gotta Be Somebody’. There are two big moves – one from former Rogue Traders frontwoman Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who moves up 15 places to No.24 with her new single ‘Alive’, and one from T.I. featuring Rihanna, which moves up 16 places to No.25. Further down the list, chart joy for dance label Vicious with their new release by the Ian Carey Project debuting at No.44 and the Potbelleez making another appearance at No.50 with their previous single ‘Don’t Hold Back’.
DIGITAL TRACKS: Digitally, Lady Gaga is kicking goals with ‘Poker Face’ here, moving up six places to nab the No.4 position, while there are two new tracks joining her in the top ten – Kings Of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody’ and Pink’s ‘Sober’ making their entires at Nos.8 and 10 respectively. Nat Bassingthwaighte is up 13 places to No.19 here, with T.I. and Rihanna moving up 12 to No.21. Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ re-enters the top 40 (though only just) and Kevin Rudolph scrapes in by the skin of his teeth, debuting at No.40 with new single ‘Let It Rock’.
PHYSICAL SINGLES: So who’s fans head on into the stores to support their favourite artists by buying physical singles? Pink (again) with ‘So What’ – physical version of new single ‘Sober’ is still to make it’s way into stores. Jessica Mauboy’s track ‘Running Back’ continues to find favour at retail, up to No.2, while Nickelback’s fans are also similarly passionate, allowing the band’s new single ‘Gotta Be Somebody’ to debut at No.6. The Pussycat Dolls are in at No.7 with their two track single of ‘I Hate This Part’ (it gets a radio edit remix on the b-side), while Beyonce’s fans have raced out to grab her new single ahead of it’s official release, allowing ‘If I Were A Boy’ to debut at No.11. We wrote about Sydney act ‘Panjo 5’ a week or so ago and their debut single ‘Move’ debuts at No.12 this week. There’s a ten place drop for Miley Cyrus (‘7 Things’) and a massive 26 place rise for Leona Lewis (‘Forgive Me’) – they’re at Nos.19 and 20 respectively. Bond duet ‘Another Way To Die’ gives Alicia Keys another top 30 hit on the physical charts – it’s in at No.27 while independent Jord Allen will no doubt be thrilled to see his ‘Get Happy’ EP come in at No.46.
ALBUMS: The fun is in the house for the second week in a row for superstar Pink – her album ‘Funhouse’ staying steady in the number one position on the albums chart at the same time as notching up triple platinum accreditation. With the excitement building over Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron’s Australian promo visit this week, the third installment of the High School Musical soundtrack series does big business for EMI, debuting in the number five position, selling more than 35,000 copies into stores. Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame’ reaches it’s highest point this week, pOpping it’s way into the No.7 position. There’ll no doubt be celebrations in the offices of Vicious this week with punters giving the Potbelleez debut, self-titled album the seal of approval as it debuts in the chart at No.17 on the back of three massive club singles. Celine Dion’s best of is doing good business – strangely better in it’s second week in – it rises 12 places to No.24. Further down, there are debuts from The Ten Tenors (No.27) and Chris Isaak (No.29), while Katie Noonan’s new album ‘Blackbird’ fails to replicate the No.1 success of her previous album ‘Skin’, coming in at No.43. The shine seems to have been taken off Hinder slightly – their new album only managing to hit No.44, while the new Triple J compilation ‘Like A Version 4’ curiously comes in on the albums chart and not the compilations chart at No.47.
