The winner of Britain’s 2008 X Factor competition has been crowned – 20 year old Alexandra Burke has won the coveted prize and this Wednesday physically releases her debut single in the UK – a cover version of the Leonard Cohen classic ‘Hallelujah’. The track has been available for digital download in the UK for almost 24 hours and it’s tipped to be top of the charts come next weekend, given it’s already breaking download records in Britain. Meanwhile, fans of the late, great Jeff Buckley are rallying the troops in order to get Jeff’s version, originally released on his classic album ‘Grace’, to the top of the UK charts in place of Alexandra’s. And even though Jeff supporters have managed to get his version up 13 places to No.30 in this week’s UK chart, we reckon they’ll have (ahem) Buckley’s chance of knocking off Alexandra next week. We shall wait and see, but she nailed the winner’s performance (below).
