So we’ve been trying desperately to track down the name of this new Aussie girl group since we heard about them launching themselves at Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory in early December. We even emailed the publicist for the group at the time without a single reply. So now, finally, the news is officially out about the new four girl group Sultry Sally and their debut single, a cover of the Crystal Waters classic ‘Gypsy Woman’.
Sultry Sally are made up of Sera Monson, Natalie Conway, Nicky Kurta and former Australian Idol finalist Anne Robertson and under the musical guidance of Michael Szumowski and Michael D’Arcy, they’re attempting to bring a new style of pOp/dance to Australian audiences. On the band’s OFFICIAL WEBSITE, they’ve posted four tracks, including a cover version of Euphoria’s massive #1 chart hit ‘Love You Right’ and two originals – ‘Celebrate’ and ‘Feeling Love’. We must admit to being a bit perplexed, however, about the group’s association with a line of potato chips that their site links through to.
The band’s debut single (as previously mentioned) is this – the cover version of the 1991 Crystal Waters hit ‘Gypsy Woman’ and the official clip is featured below. The girls are all dressed in ’50s sex-siren style black strapless dresses with primary-coloured accessories. The girls hop between coloured boxes and a funky red convertible, before finally taking to the stage in coloured dresses to perform to a silhouetted audience. It’s a cute clip, and even though the girls look like they’re having the time of their lives, we can’t help but feel that young Anne looks a little uncomfortable throughout. All in all though, not a bad effort to introduce Australia’s newest pOp girl group. ‘Gypsy Woman’ is available on iTunes now.
