They may have missed out on a Brit Award earlier this week, but Chris Martin and the boys from Coldplay can at least take some comfort from the fact the band’s latest album ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’ has been named the highest selling album in the world for 2008.
According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (the IFPI), Coldplay sold a spectacular 6.8 million copies of ‘Viva La Vida’ in the six months between it’s June 2008 release and the end of the calendar year. The second biggest selling album was AC/DC’s ‘Black Ice’, followed at three by the Mamma Mia soundtrack, Duffy’s ‘Rockferry’ and Metallica’s ‘Death Magnetic’. Rounding out the top ten were No.6 – Leona Lewis ‘Spirit’, No.7 – Amy Winehouse ‘Back To Black’, No.8 – High School Musical 3 Soundtrack, No.9 – Lil Wayne ‘The Carta III’ and No.10 – Rihanna ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’.
