We don’t know whether you’re aware of this fact or not, but apparently (and according to the title of his debut album), Scottish producer and DJ Calvin Harris actually CREATED disco! This revelation shocked and perplexed us slightly, because we’d read articles in history class about artists like the Bee Gees and Donna Summer tearing up the ‘disco dancefloors’ in the 1970s. For now we’ll leave the brawl to continue amongst disco purists, but back to present day – and Calvin Harris is trying to re-invent the disco with his latest single ‘I’m Not Alone’, the first track from his upcoming second album, rumoured for release around mid-year. The clip opens with a young man dragging a teddybear on a bobsled behind him through the snow. Pausing to reflect and garner some warmth aside a mysteriously placed bonfire, his attention is broken by a burst of piano-fulled electronic music, pumping from a castle o’er yonder. Inside the castle walls, Master Harris has a number of hapless fillies caged, and as he sharpens his tools through his bedazzled spectacles, it becomes increasingly clear that he is indeed a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. What does his ‘scientific’ experiment create in the end? Whilst you’re getting your chops around the clip, we’ll slowly slink away to contemplate whether Calvin’s trying to woo the gay community with his rainbow cover art (above).
