SINGLES : It might have taken her ten weeks to do so, but rising country star Taylor Swift has this week finally made it to the top of the Australian singles chart, selling 16,150 copies of her single ‘Love Story’ to overtake Flo Rida’s single ‘Right Round’ (15,389 copies). What’s more is that the T.I./Justin Timberlake collaboration ‘Dead And Gone’ continues it’s ascendency, rising a further four places this week to No.4 (8444 copies sold). There’s also a top ten debut (at No.10) for the Pussycat Dolls with their version of the Slumdog Millionaire theme ‘Jai Ho’ bagging 5173 sales in a week to secure it’s place. Local outfit Evermore will be happy with their 14 place jump into the No.12 position with latest single ‘Hey Boys And Girls’ (4255 copies), and Warner continues the success, this time with new outfit 3OH!3 racing into the top 20 at No.16 with ‘Don’t Trust Me’ (3637 sales) – just one ahead of Wes Carr’s new track ‘Feels Like Whoa’ in at No.17 (3636 sales). Jessica Mauboy also debuts – down at No.29 – with third single ‘Been Waiting’. It sold 3113 copies throughout the past week. With Coldplay in the country and playing last weekend’s Sound Relief concert in Sydney, the band sees a number of their tracks in the charts – there’s ‘Viva La Vida’ at No.23, ‘Fix You’ at No.47, ‘Yellow’ at No.48, ‘Clocks’ at No.56, ‘Life In Technicolour II’ at No.74, ‘The Scientist’ at No.76, ‘Violet Hill’ at No.81 and ‘The Hardest Part’ at No.97.
PHYSICAL SINGLES : As it was last week, it’s a case of Taylor Swift again this week over on the physical side of things, with 2429 physical copies of her single ‘Love Story’ sailing out of CD stores this week. The T.I./Justin Timberlake physical single bullets up to No.6 on this chart, selling a lowly 706 copies, while Wes Carr hits the top ten here (at No.10), selling 622 copies. There’s Britney’s new entry ‘If You Seek Amy’ at No.14, former No.1 Flo Rida ‘Right Round’ at No.15, Jessica Mauboy ‘Been Waiting’ at No.21, plus Abby Dobson (No.32) and Katy Perry (No.37).
DIGITAL TRACKS : It was digitally that Flo Rida managed to hold his ground, maintaining a healthy digital sales lead over Taylor Swift (14,214 to Taylor’s 12,917 digital sales). It was Taylor’s strong physical sales that helped her over the line on the official singles chart. Further down, Pussycat Dolls debut at No.10 here with ‘Jai Ho’, while there are also strong rises from 3OH!3 (No.22 to No.12), Evermore (No.26 to No.16), Wes Carr (No.51 to No.19) and Jessica Mauboy (No.39 to No.23).
ALBUMS : After a couple of solid sales weeks for Irish supergroup U2 in the No.1 position, a further 8135 sales for them this week couldn’t keep them in the No.1 position – in fact, those sales couldn’t keep the band from slipping down to No.3. Kings Of Leon return to their No.1 post with ‘Only By The Night’ selling 11,412 copies last week. Australia’s love affair with Taylor Swift continues – the singer selling 8977 copies of her album to make it to No.2, and Lily Allen drops just the one position to No.4 with ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’. It sold 8094 copies last week. There was just the one, lonely debut this week – and it came from Kram’s ‘Mixtape’ – pOpping into the chart down at No.30 with 1390 sales. Kylie’s ‘Boombox’ drops out of the top 100 after just two weeks. In Coldplay land on the albums chart – the band occupies Nos.5, 32, 33 and 38.
