There’s no getting around it – Lionel Richie is a legend. And for over 40 years, the former Commo-dores front man has been plying his trade to varying degrees of success. From the Diana Ross duet that effectively launched his solo career in 1981 to the tender balladry of ‘Hello’ to the more uptempo hits like ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’ and ‘All Night Long’, Lionel Richie is a global success story. But in recent years, his mainstream pOpularity has been on the wane. And to address this, the singer has teamed up with some of today’s hottest producers including Stargate to create his latest album ‘Just Go’. The first single from it (the album’s title track) sees the singer teaming up with Akon for a slow-burning, mellow track with reggae-infused edges. We’ve got to admit, he’s looking pretty good for a guy who’ll turn 60 in the middle of the year, but we don’t quite know that today’s youth-obsessed radio will give the track the attention it needs, even with the help of Akon. ‘Just Go’ the album is released in Australia on April 10.
