In the post-Mother’s Day haze, the battle between Ronan Keating and Andre Rieu was on in earnest to see who would come out victorious on the albums chart. So who was the victor this week? You’ll read the results and more below.
SINGLES : Australia has a new No.1 over on the singles chart – the Black Eyed Peas have made it all the way to the top spot with their single ‘Boom Boom Pow’ reaching the coveted position on the back of 11,077 sales. That displaces last week’s No.1, Eminem’s ‘We Made You’ into the No.2 position (10,767 sales). Lily Allen proves that the success of previous single ‘The Fear’ wasn’t just a fluke with her new single ‘Not Fair’ cracking the top ten this week – No.7 to be precise – with 6909 sales, while teen superstar Miley Cyrus joins her in the top ten at No.10 with ‘The Climb’, up two spots with 5545 sales. Hilltop Hoods debut at No.24 on the back of 2844 sales of their new track ‘Chase That Feeling’, Warner’s Shinedown debuts at No.32 with 2139 sales of their single ‘Second Chance’, and David Guetta roars into the top 50 at No.43 with his Kelly Rowland collaboration ‘When Love Takes Over’. It’s up from No.96 last week to No.42 this week (1514 sales).
PHYSICAL SINGLES : Eminem has swooped in on the No.1 position here this week with 1840 physical copies of his single ‘We Made You’ sold to give him the crown. Miley Cyrus makes a big impact here – at No.4 with a debut. Her single ‘The Climb’ sells 795 physical copies in the past week. With her Aussie tour now underway, Pink’s new single ‘Bad Influence’ makes a massive 26 place leap into the No.9 position, while there are debuts at Nos.11, 12 and 14 for Soulja Boy, Lily Allen and Akon respectively.
DIGITAL TRACKS : Digitally, it’s all the Black Eyed Peas. In excess of 11,000 digital sales makes them No.1 here as well as over on the official singles chart. Lily Allen races into the No.5 position here with new single ‘Not Fair’, with the Hilltop Hoods debuting in the No.22 position with single ‘Chase That Feeling’.
ALBUMS : We don’t know who keeps buying Ronan Keating’s album, but we know full well that they’ll be making Universal Music particularly happy. Just shy of 20,000 copies (19,110) of his ‘Songs For My Mother’ were sold last week to keep him at No.1 for the fourth week in a row, knocking on the door of platinum sales in the process. Dutch violin supremo Andre Rieu makes it a second week in the runner up position with his ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ set – 14,497 copies would have seen him at No.1 just weeks ago, but with Ronan pulling in such big figures, Andre’s relegated to second. Pink’s Aussie tour sees her ‘Funhouse’ album back to No.3 (it’s now seven times platinum – 490,000 copies plus). Perth’s Little Birdy debuts at No.6 with their new album ‘Confetti’ proving the fans are still there in their thousands – seven thousand to be precise – 7010 copies on debut. The Hannah Montana movie soundtrack shifts 3510 copies in it’s first week of sales to debut at No.18, while the Hillsong bubble seems to have burst from the days of massive No.1 albums – a debut at No.22 with 2619 sales. Further down, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) debuts at No.35 (1759 sales) while Ciara pOps into the top 50 at No.45 with 1322 sales.

What do you mean Pink’s album is NOW 7X platinum?. It was 7X platinum around Feb/March. It should be almost 8X platinum by now.
