Can you believe it!? It’s now less than a week before some of Europe’s finest hit the stages of Moscow’s Indoor Olympic Sports Arena for the semi finals of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. And as the days count slowly down, auspOp ramps up it’s coverage of the entries that will be vying for glory in this year’s competition, now with two posts each day, one each for the remaining countries we’ve yet to cover. The grand final from Moscow is to be screened on delayed telecast on Australia’s SBS on Sunday May 17.
UKRAINE : Svetlana Loboda – Be My Valentine
What’s that up on the stage!? Is it a bird? Is it a plane!? NO! It’s ANTI-CRISIS GIRL! Oh those Europeans! But Svetlana is one of those rare pOp performers who isn’t afraid to push the boundaries a little. The singer caused controversy in her homeland last year when she released a clothing line called ‘F*ck The Macho’, which protested against stereotypes. Five albums down, three consecutive top five singles (including this). The clip is truly incredible – and we may go as far as to say it’s the best of the bunch for Eurovision 2009. Lively, colourful, fast-paced, sexy – it’s got everything covered in one sweet three and a half minute package. And we reckon Svetlana is more than ready to break out of the Ukraine.
