We must admit to going into listening to the debut album by 21 year old Queensland DJ TyDi not knowing quite what to expect, but we’re completely happy to report that he most certainly doesn’t disappoint.
The album’s opener ‘Closer Than My Breath’ sets the scene for what ultimately is a solid 15 track sonic landscape. Following track ‘Everything’s OK’ takes on a vocoded male vocal with an almost trance-like effect. It’s easy to hear why ‘Foolish’ has been chosen as the lead single from the record – with it’s vocals provided by Keshia, it’s easily the most commercially accessible here. ‘Look Closer’ is a seamless journey throughout it’s 70 minute plus duration. Landing somewhere between the sounds of Trentemöller and some of his idols, the album is full of electronic wizardry that never sounds cheap, try-hard or forced. The pace may vary throughout the album, but what doesn’t is the quality and it’s why TyDi has become one of the most in-demand DJs in Australia. What TyDi has crafted is a quality internationally sounding dance/electronica record that truly belies his young years.
