While our number one single stays the same for a second week, we have a new number one album – but if you think rock gods Pearl Jam would eclipse the sales success of last week’s No.1 from Muse, think again.
SINGLES : David Guetta remains in the top spot for another week, after reclaiming the lead last week from Guy Sebastian (who remains at No.2). ‘Sexy Bitch’ sells a further 17,271 copies this week, with Guy some 2999 copies behind.
Kate Miller-Heidke’s still selling more than 10,000 units of ‘The Last Day On Earth’ each week (10,423 to be precise), while Cascada’s ‘Evacuate The Dancefloor’ in No.4 sells just a bee’s dick less (9995 copies).
The cast of Glee shook things up on Aussie shores last week and rockets 16 places up the chart this week to No.5 with ‘Don’t Stop Believin” selling 9304 copies for the week. The rest of the top ten remains relatively unchanged.
Beyonce’s on our shores and her singles all do well this week – she has three singles within the Aussie top 20 (‘Sweet Dreams’ at No.12 – 4787 sales, ‘Broken Hearted Girl’ at No.15 – 3558 sales and ‘Single Ladies’ at No.16 – 3515 sales), the latter of which leapt an incredible 25 places.
Pearl Jam’s ‘The Fixer’ makes a jump from No.35 to No.22 (2959 copies), Swedish poppet Agnes’ single ‘Release Me’ finally cracks the top 50 – at No.31 with 2469 copies, while Newton Faulkner also makes his way higher – up 14 places to No.36 with ‘If This Is It’ (2089 copies).
Dizzee Rascal’s back in at No.42 with ‘Holiday’ (1695 sales) and 3OH!3 have another top 50 hit on their hands with a little help from Katy Perry (‘Starstruckk’ debuting at No.44 with 1666 sales).
Outside the top 50, Jordin Sparks scores another top 100 hit with ‘S.O.S. (Let The Music Play)’ debuting in the No.54 position with 1358 sales.
Patrick Swayze’s death had an effect on sales of the Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes classic ‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life’ – it makes a ‘debut’ on the ARIA chart at No.63 (1165 sales), while Wes Carr’s new single ‘Love Is An Animal’ comes in at No.65 with 1148 sales.
Eva Simons’ track ‘Silly Boy’ is on the move upwards – placing 22 spots higher this week at No.66 (1142 sales), Michael Buble debuts at No.67 with ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’ (1127 sales), one place higher than the new Mariah Carey track ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ (No.68 with 1120 sales).
Liam Finn and Eliza Jane are in at No.75 with ‘Champagne In Seashells’ (968 sales), MKF debut at No.76 with ‘Like The River’ (954 sales) and the Glee Cast get some more love with their cover of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Rehab’ debuting at No.93 (751 copies).
ALBUMS : Pearl Jam score a convincing No.1 album this week with their new long player ‘Backspacer’ debuting in the top spot. But while Muse’s first week figures last week easily cracked the 20,000 mark, Pearl Jam have to settle for 19,294 copies.
Muse drops down to No.2 with ‘The Resistance’ (12,569 sales), Beyonce’s on our shores and therefore her ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ set moves back up the chart to No.3 (6812 sales) and Newton Faulkner’s new album ‘Rebuilt By Humans’ makes an impressive debut at No.5 (6510 copies).
Madonna’s best-of ‘Celebration’ debuts at No.8 with 4881 copies sold and Mika debuts at No.10 with ‘The Boy Who Knew Too Much’ selling 3579 copies.
Further down, La Roux’s back in the top 30 – at No.29 (1580 copies), Megadeth drops 20 spots (No.31 with ‘Endgame’ – 1517 sales) and there’s a debut at No.37 for Bluejuice (‘Head Of The Hawk’ – 1402 sales) and No.38 for the Packed To The Rafters soundtrack (1268 sales).
Packed To The Rafters isn’t the only soundtrack debuting this week either – the 500 Days Of Summer soundtrack is in at No.46 with 1126 sales.
Ben Harper and Relentless7 race back into the top 100 at No.54 with ‘White Lies For Dark Times’ (1006 sales), Basement Jaxx debut at No.76 with ‘Scars’ (696 sales), Three Days Grace pops in at No.77 with ‘Life Starts Now’ (681 sales) and the 1927 best-of ‘…Ish’ is in at No.78 (674 sales).
Kid Cudi debuts at No.85 with ‘Man On The Moon : The End Of Day’ (609 copies), Monsters Of Folk debut at No.91 with their self-titled album (593 copies) and Cliff Richard & The Shadows’ ‘Reunited’ set is in at No.93 (576 copies).

Thanks for the info about Sexy Bitch’s sales auspOp, and also to anonymous for the certification info. That’s very interesting. Guess it’s a case of when an artist is big all over the world they sometimes don’t worry about getting their little old Oz accreditations. Bigger fish to fry.

Thanks for the Mariah info :)

Hi there.
Do you have Music DVD sales, as i was wondering how many copies Delta’s ‘Believe Again Tour’ DVD sold this week?
Thanks.

Record companies have to pay to have product certified, so often they don’t bother. For example, Madonna’s “Beautiful Stranger” was only ever certified Gold, yet it sold over 70k in Australia. It was released the same week as Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like A Woman”, which was widely advertised at the time as being “limited to a shipment of only 70k copies”. When that single was deleted, it dropped swiftly down the charts, but “Beautiful Stranger” kept selling. On the Year End charts for 1999, Madonna appeared at #34 and Shania at #44, with Madonna having a Gold cert and Shania a Platinum one. Back in those days, singles were often deleted in order to drive album sales (young readers probably wouldn’t be aware of that these days!).

And for Anonymous,
Cassie’s album ‘Differently’ slipped down to No.56 on this week’s ARIA album chart, selling a further 978 copies.
Since it’s debut on August 24, it’s sold 11,782 copies.
Hope this helps!

Hey Soulfan,
Not quite sure why his accreditations haven’t been updated at this stage. If ‘Sexy Bitch’ sells in similar numbers this week, it’ll be way past double platinum (140,000) by next weekend.
So far it’s bagged 130,176 copies.

dhi there, what has cassie davis’ differently album sold this week? (along with her single) this week and so far?
She had a huge promo this week and thought that sales would be good, can you please help verify?
Thanks

Hi AuspOp, thanks for all your fantastic figures again. I am really puzzling as to why David Guetta ‘s record company has not updated his accreditation yet. Surely Sexy Bitch must have had well over 100,000 units by now but it is still only gold on the ARIA site. Seems rather lazy of them.

Great Figures by Guy again well done go Aussie go !!!!

Hey Anonymous,
No, no sales data for the album – it’s never troubled the top 100…
And no word yet on the next single here. Warner may try to go back on ‘Breathe Slow’ or they might go with the new single ‘To Love Again’, due to be the first single lifted from a repackaged version of her album, out in the UK late this year.
No word yet on an Aussie release.
