* 26 year old British rapper Speech Debelle (pictured) has picked up the much coveted 2009 Barclays Mercury Prize for her debut album ‘Speech Therapy’. She beat eleven other artists including La Roux, Florence And The Machine, Kasabian and Bat For Lashes to win the prize.
* Rapper Snoop Dogg has been appointed the Creative Chairman position at EMI’s rap label Priority Records. The superstar’s new album ‘Malice ‘N’ Wonderland’ is set for a worldwide release in December.
* Universal Music has announced that US outfit OneRepublic will release their new album ‘Waking Up’ in Australia on Friday November 20. ‘All The Right Moves’, the album’s first single, will be serviced to media locally on September 22.
* Former Aussie Idol Guy Sebastian is still kicking goals with his latest single ‘Like It Like That’. It’s still riveted in the top spot on the mid-week iTunes chart after moving up to No.1 on the ARIA singles chart over the weekend.
* Channel 10’s been busy promoting their upcoming TV show ‘Glee’ of late (it premieres on the network on Thursday September 17), but Sony Music has announced that the soundtrack to the show will hit music store shelves on November 06.
* The Beatles back catalogue was re-released today with original artwork and tracklistings, all in glorious stereo sound. But unprecedented demand has seen the CDs sell out from online retailers in the US and UK. Some freight delays locally have prevented the album making it into some Victorian outlets, but customers are assured they’ll be there by tomorrow.
* In the world of Twitter, David Guetta’s been given two gold records in Canada, Sia’s car’s broken down (poor love) and Lenka’s got a stiff neck.
* And Wiley (who brought us the 2008 hit ‘Wearing My Rolex’) will return to the Australian music scene later this year with his new album ‘Race Against Time’ (packshot below). Inertia will release the album locally on October 09.
