The lovely Shakira has broken the cover image for her forthcoming single ‘Waka Waka’.
The track has been chosen as the official anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which is being held in South Africa in June.
Shakira will also perform the track, alongside South African feature artist Freshlyground, at the official closing ceremony for the event, held at the Johannesburg Soccer City Stadium on July 11.
Says Shakira of the new track, “The FIFA World Cup is a miracle of global excitement, connecting every country, race, religion and condition around a single passion. It represents an event that has the power to unite and integrate, and that’s what this song is about. I am honored that ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’ was chosen to be part of the excitement and the legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.”
The track is set for a worldwide digital release on May 12, with the official FIFA World Cup album ‘Listen Up’ set for release locally on May 28.
