ELTON JOHN & RU PAUL : Don’t Go Breaking My Heart
Taken from Elton’s 1993 ‘Duets’ album was this monstrously kitsch remake of Elton’s 1976 Kiki Dee duet ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’. Given that Kiki was already appearing on one song on the ‘Duets’ LP (a cover of Cole Porter’s ‘True Love’), Elton decided to rope in the world’s most fashionable drag queen Ru Paul for a no holds barred high-camp disco version with some of the corniest acting you’re every likely to see – from both of them. Elton looks a little like a Pet Shop Boy as he delivers a box of chocolates to the statuesque supermodel before both launch into the highly retro, hi-NRG version of the song. It just scraped into the Aus top 50.
