We think we might have an idea why the Jessica Mauboy project isn’t shining brightly in the top ten this time around – and Sony will take another Jessica single (‘Saturday Night’) to radio later this month. However, the video to the lead single ‘Get ‘Em Girls’ has finally been revealed.
And to be completely honest, we’re not sure we like it. The qualities that originally endeared us to Jessica (her genuineness, her sweet fun demeanour and her ability to relate to the audience) seems to be gone here (ditto any semblance of a tune).
Though Jess looks great throughout (to borrow from Britney… she’s not a girl, not yet a woman), it almost appears that the budget for the clip had been so blown by getting Snoop Dogg to appear that there was little cash to splash for anything else.
And was he worth the money? He spends half of the clip seemingly stoned out of his eyeballs, looking like he wished he was anywhere other than this.
Maybe it’ll grow on us? But after living with it for three weeks already… we’re not sure it’s gonna.

I love the song apart from the rap, but that video is atrocious. The behind the scenes was more interesting than that…

I think this is her best song to date bar Burn. However, I’m very disappointed with the video. After watching her performance at the NRL grand final I was expecting big things from this video. The choreography in that performance was tight and she moved like she was fierce. This video translates nothing from that performance at all :(

It looks like a foot fetish video. Snoop Dog is positively creepy.
I hope the next single is better.

What happened, Jessica? This song sounds like an awful Beyonce b-side. And the video looks like something you’d get done at one of those “Make Your Own Music Video!” stalls at a shopping centre. It’s hard to believe this was directed by Hype Williams. It ranks up there as one of the worst pop music videos I’ve ever seen.

LOVED her first album and all of her singles. This one, not so much.
The video really is terrible, and I’m not much of a Snoop fan, so his LONG rap really isn’t great to listen too.
I’m hoping that her next single and the album will be great, and I have a feeling they will be. This is just a minor bump in the road.

There was so much to like on the last album, I’m hoping Get ‘Em Girls is just an aberration. Those tired old cliches of the male chorus going ‘OOooh’ and the sighs and groans and the ubiquitous rap thrown in. A really boring track.
