Hey Anonymous,
Not sure why, but everything is much more expensive in Australia. On our trip to London last year, we were shocked as to how cheap everything was – food, clothing, transport, music…

Oops, you’re right indeed. For some reason, I thought that the Aussie price for one song was equalled to the US & UK price. I understand why you’re angry now.
Since you have close links to record companies & the music industry in general, do you know why there’s such a huge gap between the aussie & US price?
auspOp says
Hey Anonymous,
While we agree about your digital albums price comment, we cannot disagree with you more re: your comment “The singles price is the same for everyone in the world, not only for Australia.”
In the United States, they pay just $1.29 for their digital singles (and with the Aussie dollar at parity with its US counterpart, $2.19 for our digital singles is highway robbery).
In the UK, they pay just 99 pence. On current exchange rates, that’s $1.62 Australian, again way less than our $2.19 standard price.
We’re being completely gouged.

There’ve always been dirges that have topped the charts in the past, even when the music industry was in a healthy state. What about the Mambo No 5, Macarenas, Las Ketchup & Bob The Builders who topped the chart when the music industry was in a healthy state.
The quality of #1’s clearly have no link with the state of the music industry.
As for the songs’ price on iTunes. Well, it doesn’t shock me as much as the price of the albums but nobody seems to complain about it.
The albums price on iTunes is probably the reason why digital albums sales can’t increase and set off the decline in physical sales.
The singles price is the same for everyone in the world, not only for Australia.

Anonymous #4,
We totally agree – we’re being totally ripped off for digital songs in Australia. Completely and utterly.
That said, that the dirge that is Black Eyed Peas’ new single has made it to No.1 says a lot about the state of the industry.
And Anonymous #6 and #7,

Has anyone seen the Cheryl Cole cd yet?

I managed to get most of the ones I wanted. Cheryl Cole, JB keep saying it is out on the 19th so not sure what is going on there. It seems they are still recieving stock from Couriers today so it’ll hit shelves late but I asked and they went and found the ones I wanted.
Mariah Carey Australia (MariahDownUnder) says
We’re hearing that Universal Music have only shipped out Mariah and Rihanna this morning to avoid early (Thursday night) purchases. The only problem with that is that some bigger department stores (such as Big W, K-Mart and Target) won’t have it until Monday. Lost weekend sales :(
Try this afternoon though, UMA have said that JB Hi Fi and Sanity should have them by 1 or 2pm.

If you go too early they’re generally not on the shelves but you can ask they will have it behind the counter. I’m going now to collect them all…awesome!

Can I just say that there are just 2 songs inside the Top 25 itunes chart as of right now that are $1.69. They are Bruno Mars ‘Grenade’ and The Black Eyed Peas ‘The Time (Dirty Bit). The other 23 are priced at $2.19. Pathetic.
