He’s raced into the top 20 on the ARIA singles chart this week with ‘Grenade’ and now Bruno Mars has revealed the official video for the second single proper from his album ‘Doo Wops & Hooligans’.
The thing we’re really starting to dig about Bruno is that he’s breaking out from the mould that seems to have swallowed most other R&B stars at the moment – that mould of soulless, repetitive urban-cum-dance with vocoders at ten paces.
This has a soul. It’s a tale of unrequited love. That feeling you get when you give everything, but the other person just takes (haven’t we all been there!?).
So he drags a piano halfway across the city in the hope of impressing said girl (he really ought to invest in a keyboard when the ‘Just The Way You Are’ royalty cheques start flowing in…). Of course, when he gets there, turns out she’s not really worth it. So back the piano goes. Poor bugger.

“Just the way you are” felt like an extended snoozefest for me but “Grenade” is really starting to grow on me. I never actually thought I’d warm up to anything by Bruno Mars. I don’t generally find artists like him interesting at all but I am really starting to enjoy “Grenade”. Let’s hope he starts putting out more stuff like this. More importantly, let’s hope stuff like this gets popular.
