You know how we’ve been reaching out for a little bit more soul in our pop music of late? You know how we’d kill for something a little more original? You know how Warner Music has just serviced Cee Lo Green’s new single ‘It’s OK’ to Australian radio? Well strangely everywhere else, they’re heading out with this single instead.
One listen to Cee Lo’s new album ‘The Lady Killer’ and you know that this is the track that’s worth the price of entry alone. ‘Bright Lights, Bigger City’ has everything we’re looking for right here in a tight sub-four minute package of glorious soul-pop. Stabs of 80s-esque synth, a shuffling bassline not dissimilar in feel to Michael Jackson’s iconic ‘Billie Jean’, that incredible soulful voice and a video clip that makes you want to stay out all night in the big smoke and take in the dazzling lights all combine magically.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Cee Lo is surrounded by plenty of bling on his journey – from the diamond encrusted eyewear to the long stem roses, the Remy Martin cognac to the Piper Heidsieck and from the gangsta action to the big black Rolls Royce, everything about this screams decadence.
One of our favourite tunes of the past month.
