Our sincere apologies for the delay in posting this week’s Chart Watch segment. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to bring you the details until now. Best get on with things, then…
SINGLES : Black Eyed Peas have lost their hold on the No.1 spot on the ARIA singles chart after just one week – Ke$ha has roared back to the top with her single ‘We R Who We R’. The single bagged an impressive 22,336 sales last week, bringing its total so far to within a bee’s dick of 90,000 copies in just six weeks.
Black Eyed Peas still did relatively well, however, with another 19,840 copies of ‘The Time (The Dirty Bit)’ in the past week, just 283 copies ahead of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ in position three.
The week’s highest new entry came courtesy of Chris Brown, whose new single ‘Yeah 3X’ debuted at No.7, with strong first week sales of 15,901 copies.
Australian X Factor winner Altiyan Childs was no slouch in the sales department either – his debut single ‘Somewhere In The World’ was No.1 for most of the week over on iTunes and managed to nab 15,706 first week sales.
Speaking of No.1 on the iTunes chart, looks like the Aussie public has fallen in love with Guy Sebastian’s new single this week. ‘Who’s That Girl’ – featured on the singer’s best of ‘Twenty Ten’ has raced into the No.1 spot on iTunes, but spends its first week on the ARIA singles chart in the No.11 position with 12,070 sales. Expect a rise next week.
Altiyan and Guy weren’t the only singers to benefit from the X Factor Grand Final – James Blunt’s new single ‘Stay The Night’ bullets up to a new peak of No.14 on the back of his appearance. The track sold 10,627 copies last week and the entire top 15 on the singles chart sold in excess of 10,000 copies each.
New at No.21 is Willow Smith’s debut single ‘Whip My Hair’. 6843 people will be whipping it back and forth after snapping up the song last week.
The Glee Cast are in again – not only with their medley of ‘Singing In The Rain/Umbrella’ (it’s new at No.23 with 6160 sales), but also with their version of Cee Lo Green’s ‘Forget You’ (that debuts at No.24 with 6037 sales).
A debut at No.34 for Flo Rida’s new single ‘Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)’ – check out the very ‘cheeky’ new video on YouTube that we assume won’t be getting on Video Hits anytime soon.
New at No.36 is David Guetta’s new smash with Rihanna – ‘Who’s That Chick’ is in with 3878 first week sales, while Taio Cruz and Kylie Minogue rise a little ‘Higher’ in the charts – into the top 50 at No.37 – and Tinie Tempah hits the top 50 for the first time with his single ‘Written In The Stars’.
Outside the 50, The Potbelleez’ ‘Shake It’ makes it to No.51, James Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’ makes it into the No.57 spot after his performance on The X Factor, Gorillaz are in the mix with their new single ‘Doncamatic’ debuting at No.60 (2090 sales) and Ronan Keating’s duet with Paulini is up to No.66.
Justice Crew head back into the top 100 at No.73 with ‘And Then We Dance’ after their appearance on Hey Hey, Nelly’s in at No.77 with ‘Liv Tonight’ (1560 sales), Dr Dre’s brand new tune ‘Kush’ makes it in at No.81 (1479 sales) and Rihanna’s saucy ‘S&M’ debuts at No.87 (1352 copies).
There are also debuts for Lupe Fiasco (No.90 with ‘The Show Goes On’ – 1223 sales), Crystal Castles (No.91 with ‘Not In Love’ – 1222 sales) and The Beatles (No.92 with ‘Let It Be’ – 1176 sales and No.99 with ‘Here Comes The Sun’ – 1070 sales).
And finally, Jamiroquai’s ‘White Knuckle Ride’ drops back into the top 100 at No.96 on the back of their X Factor appearance.
ALBUMS : Christmas is around the corner and the albums spend is starting to kick in – and not before time. Pink stays on top of the pile with her ‘Greatest Hits… So Far’ – another 28,163 copies in the kitty this week, taking her sales of the best-of so far to an impressive 58,835 in just two weeks.
SuBo improved her sales week on week too – ‘The Gift’ moving up two spots to No.2 with another 16,202 sales. Ronan too improved week on week – his album ‘Duet’ moving up into the top three with an impressive 13,866 sales.
The highest new entry for the week came from Kanye West, whose new LP ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ debuted in the No.6 spot. 7840 people were excited enough about its release last week to go and legally grab a copy.
James Blunt’s LP ‘Some Kind Of Trouble’ rises into the top ten and Guy Sebastian’s ‘Twenty Ten’ debuts at No.09 with 6281 first week sales.
There’s another debut at No.10 from US outfit My Chemical Romance. Their new album ‘Danger Days’ sold 6164 copies in its first week, while Sony’s repackage of Ke$ha’s album ‘Animal’ (now including ‘Cannibal’) has done the trick – it’s up 25 spots to No.11.
Glee’s Christmas album might be filling a few stockings this Christmas (4741 stockings thus far) after it debuted in the No.13 spot, Nelly was in at No.17 with ‘5.0’ (3749 sales) and Aussie crooner Mark Vincent popped in at No.18 with ‘The Great Tenor Songbook’ (3590 sales).
Another album that received an end-of-life makeover was Justin Bieber’s ‘My Worlds’, so with new cover art and new tracks, his dedicated fans went out, bought 3404 copies of it and sent it skyrocketing back into the top 30.
Bruce Springsteen debuted at No.22 with ‘The Promise’ (2920 sales).
A Day To Remember’s album ‘What Separates Me From You’ headed into the top 50 at No.24, Jamiroquai’s ‘Rock Dust Light Star’ surged, Metallica’s EP dropped and Triple J’s ‘Like A Version Vol.6’ and Jess Mauboy’s ‘Get Em Girls’ also fell heavily – though not quite as heavily as Washington’s LP, which dropped 26 spots.
INXS’s ‘Original Sin’ was up 35 spots to No.54 after their X Factor appearance, Taio Cruz’s ‘Rokstarr’ is back in the top 100 at No.57 after its repackage and Take That’s new LP ‘Progress’ debuts at No.65 with 981 first week sales.
Jack Johnson’s ‘To The Sea’ re-enters at No.75 and Barnsey’s ‘Rage And Ruin’ pops its head back into the top 100 at No.96.

Hey Anonymous,
Unfortunately there’s no Cheryl in the top 100. Her single ‘Promise This’ still hasn’t hit the iTunes top 100 and the album’s nowhere to be seen in the top 100 yet either.

Glad you got your sales delivery auspOp. Wow to the singles sales this week. Seems like early last year 10,000 could guarantee you a spot very high in the top 10, and this week it could only just sneek you in the top 15. And poor Altiyan. The newspapers painted him out as a failure already yesterday for coming in at #8, and yet his sales were only a few hundred less than when Wes Carr managed #1 in 2008 (16,248 units, of which a whopping 11,364 were physical). The press really have their sharp pens out ready to stab when they smell fresh talent show game. And with the way Altiyan is dropping on itunes now it doesn’t look like he will redeem himself in their eyes next week. Welcome to the harsh world of talent show winners Altiyan. They will put your failures in the headlines, and confine your successes to the gossip pages.
Speaking of talent show winners, I was wondering if you would consider replacing the last Idol winner with the first one next week. I know you like to keep it at ten, but it looks as if Stan will leave the Top 100 next week whereas Guy might be hanging around for a while, at least with Who’s That Girl. I will be coming back to ask for his sales each week anyway, so it would save us both time. Lol

Hey Anonymous,
We think the buzz about Scarlett Belle is still building. But we reckon they need to get out there more – start doing more promo and especially more TV to try and get their name out there.

And why has Jessica Mauboy’s album fallen so heavily? Maybe…just maybe, the public have woken up to how much of a fraud she really is.

Yay! So glad you were able to receive the ARIA info. It’s funny how lost we were without it! Thanks AuspOp!
Just wondering how Mariah’s “Merry Christmas II You” sales were? Considering the zero promo and little display, I was so surprised it stayed in the top 50 this week.
Thanks in advance :)
