I definitely agree re: Jess Mauboy. I still bought her new album and there are some awesome songs but the first album, I felt, had heart and soul. Most of the singles represented some kind of feeling.
This album is very much about being rich and famous and partying. Which is fun for a track or two to dance to, but it shouldn’t be the core theme of an entire album.

In the ‘Sixty Minutes’ interview, Jessica spoke about ‘L.A. Jess’ and ‘Northern Territory’ Jess. ‘Get ‘Em Girls’ is pure L.A. Jess. Everything seems to be American – from the featured artists to the video production. Even the values inherent in ‘Get ‘Em Girls’ seem to reflect American consumerism – very much at odds with her NT background and hardly representative of her Aboriginal fans who are mostly unlikely to ever be able to afford ‘Jimmy Choos’.
I suppose they took a risk that L.A. Jess would pick up some new fans. Instead it seems to have alienated some old ones.

TwistofTroy I think the best songs on Jess Mauboy’s album are:
‘Saturday Night’ ft. Ludacris, ‘Scariest Part’, ‘Maze’, ‘Fight For You’ (the lyrics in this song are amazing) & ‘What Happened to us’ ft. Jay Sean
But the song that stands out the most among all the tracks are ‘Like This’ feat. Iyaz – This song, if released as a single, will save the album!
Must agree with you on Ronan’s new album – I’ve heard the lead single with Paulini and I’ve had it on replay the past few days!
Btw, thanks auspop for giving your opinion… I would of thought Jess would have had a strong fan base because of the success of the previous album – but then again Been waiting wasn’t an instant success, it gradually became a success. Perhaps the same will happen with ‘Get Em Girls’

I agree with AuspOp on that. I think Get Em Girls was not a single and naming the album after a tune about shoes well what does that say the album holds. Saturday Night is good, as is Maze & Scariest Part. I’m surprised to see Ronan’s Duet bullet to #3, it is truly a great album though. Isiands in the Stream is just brillant with the McClymonts.

Hey Joel,
Interesting question… It could be a combination of things. The public not ready for Jess to grow up so much. Perhaps radio not seeing the music as genuine. Perhaps her audience not really liking the new direction. Hardly any public/live appearances early on. It could have been one or more of a number of reasons.
We don’t think ‘Get ‘Em Girls’ was the right choice for the lead single, however. ‘Saturday Night’ is getting more attention at retail for good reason.

Thanks for letting us know.
I’m shocked about Jessica Mauboy’s album ‘Get ‘Em Girl’ dropping from #20 to #40 this week. Why do you think the album has performed well thus far?
