It was pretty much public knowledge since band member Brian May mentioned it during an interview back in September, but Universal Music has today confirmed that it has picked up the exclusive global rights (outside North America) to the back catalogue of Queen from January 01.
With the 40th Anniversary of the band’s formation coming up next year, Island Records (and their parent company Universal) will roll our a series of 40th Anniversary remasters of the band’s catalogue.
“We are very excited, after all this time, to be embarking on a new phase of our career – with a new record company – with new ideas, and new dreams,” Brian May said in a statement released to the media.

great news! Universal do great work with the remasters – the ideas and packaging behind the U2 remasters was fantastic. They press the std versions here in Oz, but the deluxe editions they get from the EU are done really nicely!
