Well we didn’t see this one coming… Sony Music has just serviced the debut single for last year’s British X Factor runner-up Olly Murs to local radio.
‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’ was a No.1 hit for the singer in the UK on its release there back in August, but the word’s come through that the track will get a massive boost in the local market, being used in a promotional sync for Channel 7’s evergreen ‘Packed To The Rafters’.
The promo for the hit show will hit our screens from tonight and will run through ’til February, giving Olly a big leg-up locally.
Sony has also hinted that Olly’s self-titled album will be released into Aussie stores early next year.

I can never work out why there is so much quick support for graduates from overseas talent shows when singers from equivalent Australian shows are stigmatised.

Olly’s debut single was released in NZ months ago, got a bit of radio play. It’s a great fun summer track – should do well!

I can’t believe Rafters can’t find suitable local music for the show. Overseas product doesn’t need any extra promotion. We seem to jump all over that no matter how ordinary it is.
