• Heaps of new tunes at local radio this week including ‘I Can Show You’ (pictured), the new single from Perth duo Tim & Jean. The twosome, who were championed by Triple J, are about to hit the road as part of the national Good Vibrations Festival and no doubt this piece of summery electro pop fun will play a part in their setlist.
• Tommy Trash and Tom Piper’s new single ‘All My Friends’ is another new tune at radio this week, along with The Subs’ new tune ‘Music Is The New Religion’, The Wombats’ ‘Jump In The Fog’ and New Zealand songstress Zowie’s track ‘Bite Back’.
• We were also very excited to learn that Warner Music hasn’t given up on hip songstress Janelle Monae and her brilliant could-be-a-massive-hit ‘Tightrope’. It’s been re-serviced to Australian radio in the hope it might garner a little more support the second (or is it third!?) time around. Come on Aussie radio!!? She’s brilliant!
• Speaking of things that come back once or twice, Perth outfit Jebediah have returned with their new single ‘She’s Like A Comet’. It’s the second track from their forthcoming album ‘Kosciuszko’, due in mid-April. The single is out digitally this Friday.
• Sony’s fundraising compilation album ‘Flood Relief’ has debuted at No.1 on the compilations chart, selling more than 15,000 copies in its first three days on sale. Sony Chairman Denis Handlin couldn’t contain his excitement on the result, saying in a statement, “The response to the Flood Relief CD from the general public has been outstanding. Special thanks must also go to the Australian media who have generously donated advertising, music retailers who have given it their full support and of course the artists and songwriters who appear on the album. I look forward to the continued success of the album to help raise much needed funds for the Flood Relief effort.” The three disc set is in stores now.• Aussie rockers Grinspoon have announced that they’re heading back on tour, revealing five dates throughout New South Wales over the Easter break. Kicking off in Rooty Hill on April 21, the jaunt will conclude on Anzac Day (April 25) at Panthers in Newcastle. Tickets are on sale on Wednesday February 16.
• The gang from Aussie outfit Cut Copy are giving punters a taste of their forthcoming album ‘Zonoscope’, uploading a six plus minute new track called ‘Need You Now’ onto their very own Soundcloud account. Have a listen below;
• On the US singles chart, Bruno Mars has returned to the top spot with his mega-single ‘Grenade’ while Britney’s new single ‘Hold It Against Me’ drops five spots from its No.1 debut last week to No.6.
• The US album chart this week belongs to The Decemberists, whose new album ‘The King Is Dead’ makes an impressive debut atop the Billboard 200, with 94,000 copies in the bag first week in. No.2 is the compilation album Kidz Bop 19 with Irish outfit The Script scraping in for a No.3 debut with their latest long player ‘Science And Faith’. Social Distortion and Gregg Allman round out a quintet of debuts.
• On the British singles chart, Ke$ha notches up her first UK number one with her single ‘We R Who We R’, while the new Chase & Status single ‘Blind Faith’ comes in at No.5. Chris Brown is the other new top ten entry of the week – at No.10.
• And on the UK album chart this week, Adele shifted over 200,000 copies of her new album ’21’ to fly to the top of the heap. Hers was the only album to debut in the top 20.
