Amazing isn’t it? Get Sydney director Mark Alston on board for the video for the third single from Jess Mauboy’s latest album ‘Get Em Girls’ and Sony has a clip that shits all over those for ‘Get Em Girls’ and ‘Saturday Night’ (both directed by Hype Williams no less) and at a fraction of the cost.
The reason this works is that it’s completely understated, beautifully directed and effortlessly stylish. The outfits work, the set-ups work, the locations work. Jess is not trying to hard to be a hard-ass street-smart American diva here. She’s reverted to the Jess we all know and love and once again everything just gels. It also doesn’t hurt things that they’ve chosen one of the strongest songs on the album as the third single.
Which no doubt will be allowing the folks at Sony HQ to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Hopefully Jess and co won’t ever believe the Hype hype again and will leave the production of her videos to the locals who do Jess much more justice. ‘Cause in no way was Hype Williams worth the money they plied him with.
