POLI GENOVA : Na Inat
Such is the allure of success in the Eurovision Song Contest that some artists try a number of times before they’re finally selected by their country for the big job. Poli Genova is one such artist. Attempts as part of a girl group in 2005 and 2006 were unsuccessful, but the 24 year old hasn’t given up, co-penning and performing Bulgaria’s official entry for 2011 ‘Na Inat’, which in English means ‘For Spite’.
Poli is rather well known in her homeland – as a TV presenter and as a vocalist on programs such as Dancing With The Stars. She’ll hit the stage to perform in the second semi final on May 12 and ‘Na Inat’ is one of very few entries in 2011 to be performed in the singer’s native tongue.
The track itself is a radio-friendly pop/rock number in a similar vain to Evanescence, perhaps Pink. And Poli’s vocals are pretty impressive. It’ll be interesting to see her kicking this live on the night.
