STELLA MWANGI : Haba Haba
24 year old Nairobi-born singer Stella Mwangi must be floating on air at the moment after her Eurovision single ‘Haba Haba’ sailed to the top of the Norwegian singles chart recently and stayed there for four weeks.
And now, on top of all that, she’s about to hit the stage as part of the first semi-final for Eurovision after winning Norwegian national selection through the Melodi Grand Prix 2011 back in February.
‘Haba Haba’ means ‘Little By Little’ in Swahili and the track is sung predominantly in English, with colourful African instrumentation and a celebratory vibe punctuating the chorus.
We reckon Stella sounds a little flat, particularly in the first verse, but what the performance lacks in pitch, it more than makes up for in sheer energy and enthusiasm.
And don’t forget that the ace team at EMI has given us five copies of the official 2011 Eurovision Song Contest double album to give away! Click on the giveaway link in the right hand sidebar for all the details on how to enter!
