Legendary songwriter Rod Temperton, the man behind such hits as Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ and ‘Rock With You’, as well as the Brothers Johnson’s ‘Stomp’ and Heatwave’s disco classic ‘Boogie Nights’ says in the first few moments of this video below that “she’s one of the best singers that England’s ever produced” and continues to say that “she’s one of the most underrated singers in the world”. And we can’t help but agree with him.
He speaks, of course, of UK soul/pop singer Beverley Knight, who’ll release her seventh studio album ‘Soul UK’ in Britain in July.
Beverley will cover one of Rod’s songs on her new LP – Heatwave’s ‘Always And Forever’. But she’ll also tackle plenty more classic British soul anthems, including versions of songs from Soul II Soul, Roachford and Junior Giscombe.
She says of the new LP, “I gave a lot of thought to choosing the songs I wanted to interpret for this album and it was great fun putting my own flavour and twist on tracks by some of the fantastic UK artists who preceded me and inspired me. A lot these artists opened doors for both myself and many others, and many of them are still going strong – so the album is, in part, a thank you to them.”
‘Soul UK’ is due to drop in Britain on July 04. No word yet on a local release.
