We were discussing with friends over lunch on Saturday just how many pop stars in the past 20 years had launched from the relatively safety of a pop outfit to go on to an even more successful solo career.
We came up with Robbie Williams, Beyonce Knowles and Justin Timberlake.
So while Girls Aloud is (tragically) in an apparent permanent hiatus while each of them tries their luck at the solo game (to varying degrees of success), the flame haired Nicola Roberts is attempting to add her name to the previously mentioned elite trio.
Whether she’ll succeed with her debut single ‘Beat Of My Drum’ or not, we’re not sure. It’s very English, you see. It’s a little bit Ellie Goulding, a tiny bit soul, and with her spelling out of the world ‘L.O.V.E.’, we can’t help but think it’s also a tiny bit Daphne & Celeste ‘U.G.L.Y.’
There’s also something altogether pedestrian about Nic’s performance in the official clip (below); it’s almost like she’s trying to be a little too cool for school. It may grow on us.

Shut up bitch Nicola and get Gir;s Aloud back together. I will not tell you twice… I quite like the song though, but that’s not the point…

Oh my… looks like it’ll be another failed attempt at a solo career. Will probably have similar success to that of Insatiable from Nadine Coyle.

She was never a Girls Aloud member that I took any notice of, but I’m actually Lovin’ This!!!

I love Girls Aloud especially their later music from Tangled Up to Promise.
Hmmm…this sounds very 90’s actually and I’m not sold yet on the chorus and the spelling of L.O.V.E sounds a bit tacky.
I still think Nadine made a solid album. Unfortunately without a major label music fails to have an audience.
Hope they re-unite soon…it doesn’t look likely. Although Cherly’s 2nd album didn’t stick around for long in the UK so maybe after X-Factor she’ll have time.
