Warner Music has this afternoon confirmed that The Diggers project will proceed, despite protest about its bid to trademark the term “The Diggers”.
Warner attempted to trademark the name in an attempt to prevent any copycat singers from releasing products or performing under the same name.
Managing Director of Warner Tony Harlow said the following in a statement issued to the media a short time ago;
“There continues to be discussion between Warner Music Australia and the Australian Army about the appropriate way to properly protect our mutual endeavours to raise money for charity around “The Diggers” musical project (an Australianised version of the UK “the Soldiers” project). Both parties have already agreed that neither will act without the others involvement and consent. Both the Leagues Association and Legacy have been consulted from the beginning.”
The project will proceed without a trademark in place, with an album from The Diggers still to be scheduled.
