ARETHA FRANKLIN : Freeway Of Love
We’ve decided to step way back in time this week, with Aretha Franklin’s 1985 classic ‘Freeway Of Love’. Though Aretha had achieved plenty of chart success in the US in the ’60s and ’70s with tracks like ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T.’, ‘Think’, ‘Chain Of Fools’ and ‘Spanish Harlem’, by the time 1985 rolled around, it had been a long 12 year gap in between top ten singles.
But ‘Freeway Of Love’ certainly did the trick. Peaking at No.3 in the US and within the top ten here in Australia, ‘Freeway Of Love’, produced by the legendary Narada Michael Walden, was the right song at the right time and combined Aretha’s soulful vocals with a feel-good chorus, a key change and that sax solo from Clarence Clemons.
