Their debut album was featured on our New Release Schedule yesterday, but Universal Music has today revealed a little more about the all new supergroup ‘SuperHeavy’. And as our title suggests, the new five piece features two ‘stones’ – Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and soul singer Joss Stone – along with the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, Indian superstar A.R.Rahman (the man behind the mega-hit ‘Jai Ho’) and reggae star Damian Marley.
The five piece has been recording in studios across the globe to create their debut self-titled set that’s set for release later this year.
Mick Jagger explained in a statement how the band came to be.
“Dave really wanted to make a record with a different group of musicians, in other words, with different backgrounds of music,” he said. “Instead of everyone being a rock musician, or basically a blues musician, or some other genre, he wanted to get as many genres together that would fit. I said it sounds like a good idea, I never thought it would actually happen.”
After coercing A.R.Rahman, Joss Stone and Damian Marley into the project, ‘SuperHeavy’ was born.
The band’s first single ‘Miracle Worker’ is set to drop next Thursday, with the self-titled album due on Friday September 23.
