• It was such a busy day on the site yesterday that we didn’t even have the time to create a good ol’ fashioned News Wrap for you, so here goes…
• Plenty of new tunes out at media this week including the new Eskimo Joe single ‘Echo’ (cover image pictured) – the second from their recent top five album ‘Ghosts Of The Past’.
• Also out there this week are Clare Bowditch’s ‘Are You Ready?’, Nicki Minaj ftg. Rihanna’s ‘Fly’, Elen Levon’s ‘Naughty’, Darren Hayes’ ‘Bloodstained Heart’ and Jojo’s new single ‘Disaster’.
• Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes pops up as a surprise guest vocalist on The Deeds’ forthcoming album ‘Hour Of The Thief’, which looks set to be released in Australia later this year. The track is called ‘After It’s Over’ and sees the Cold Chisel frontman sharing vocal duties with the band’s own vocalist Gola.
• Montenegrin guitarist Milos Karadaglic hits our shores for a promotional visit next week and has revealed that he’ll be giving free masterclasses in both Sydney and Melbourne during his stay. Catch him at Allans Music & Billy Hyde at 152 Bourke Street in Melbourne on Thursday September 15 from 5:30pm and at Allans Music & Billy Hyde at 228 Pitt Street in Sydney on Saturday September 17 from 11am. His album ‘The Guitar’ is out now.• Organisers of the Breakout Under 18 festival have added three more top name acts to the bill for the upcoming events in both Sydney and Melbourne. Already on the bill were LMFAO, Afrojack, 360 and Marvin Priest, but today they’ve been joined by Dutch superstars Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten as well as Melbourne duo Diafrix. Three more artists will be announced tomorrow. Check out www.letmebreakout.com for all you need to know.
• The next in the Fabriclive series of compilations (volume 59) has been produced by London based electro artist Four Tet (also knows as Kieran Hebden). The 27 track album will hit the shelves locally on Friday September 23.
• Did you miss Google’s brilliant tribute to the late, great Freddie Mercury on Monday? All is not lost, with a Youtube video of the clip now being uploaded for all to see (below). Monday would have been the star’s 65th birthday.
• Example has debuted on top of the British singles chart with his new track ‘Stay Awake’ (it was also serviced to Aussie media this week). Maroon 5’s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ moves up one spot to No.2 and Ed Sheeran’s new tune ‘You Need Me I Don’t Need You’ is in at No.4. Cover Drive’s curiously titled ‘Lick Ya Down’ is in at No.9.
• Rock has beaten dance on the British albums chart this week, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers edging out David Guetta for the No.1 album slot. Will Young’s rather brilliant ‘Echoes’ falls to No.3, while further down the Bombay Motorcycle Club is in at No.6, Lil Wayne debuts at No.8 and Dolly Parton hasn’t lost any of her magic, with new album ‘Better Day’ debuting at No.9.
• And speaking of charts… all going well, we’ll be kicking off a new Australian weekly top 40 chart wrap as of this Sunday. We’ll let you know who’s debuted where and who the big movers are in the ARIA top 40 each week at 8:00 o’clock Sunday mornings.
