ALL SAINTS : Pure Shores
How is it possible to have been doing the Lookback segment on the site for more than three years and not once mention Appleton & Co. Yes, All Saints were the all-singing four piece consisting of Appleton sisters Nicole and Natalie, along with Shaznay Lewis and Melanie Blatt.
And while they’re probably best known for their Aussie No.1 smash ‘Never Ever’ (which was pretty much carbon copied by Billie Piper for 1999’s ‘Honey To The Bee’), it’s their William Orbit-produced top ten hit ‘Pure Shores’ that we still love today.
Included on the soundtrack to the Leonardo DiCaprio film ‘The Beach’, ‘Pure Shores’ was sublime; dreamy production coupled with a mid-tempo groove that washed over you like a tropical summer’s day – the perfect accompaniment to the film.
The clip? The girls are down the beach late at night, walking across camera bathed in infra-red light while scenes from the film are intercut. Nothing too special, but for us this is all about William Orbit’s slick production.
