They’ve had an extraordinary career, with a staggering 14 number one UK singles, 26 top ten UK hits and eleven top five albums across 14 long years of being one of Britain’s (and the world’s) best loved boybands.
But after more than 44 million album sales around the world, Irish boyband Westlife have decided to call it a day.
They released a statement that in part said, “The decision is entirely amicable and after spending all of our adult life together so far, we want to have a well-earned break and look at new ventures. We see the greatest hits collection and the farewell tour as the perfect way to celebrate our incredible career along with our fans. We are really looking forward to getting out on the tour and seeing our fans one last time.
“Over the years Westlife has become so much more to us than just a band. Westlife are a family. We would like to thank our fans who have been with us on this amazing journey and are part of our family too.
“We never imagined when we started out in 1998 that 14 years later we would still be recording, touring and having hits together. It has been a dream come true for all of us.”
The band’s final single ‘Lighthouse’ will be released to media in Australia on Monday November 07. Penned by Gary Barlow and John Shanks, the track is lifted from Westlife’s forthcoming Greatest Hits package (pictured below).
The new best-of will get an Australian release in both standard and deluxe editions, the latter containing two discs and a DVD.
Both will be released in Australia on Friday November 25.

Bit of a shame as they were starting to find their own feet and bring out some quality pop music. Really happy to hear Lighthouse has the possibility of airplay over here and that the GH is actually being released. I’m a long-term fan and will miss them but judging by Take That, NKOTB and Boyzone, a reunion should be on the cards soon enough.

Cut to 2016 and the reunion album/tour with Mr. McFadden!!! And while I’m not loving Lighthouse, you can’t deny they’ve had some great hits. Bring on the Cd/DVD edition! Buy guys :)

If Westlife were a TV show I would’ve said they “jumped the shark” years ago (probably when they recorded that daff “Mandy” cover), but I loved them in their earlier career and they seem like great lads. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
