The music world was rocked by the death of modern day soul icon Amy Winehouse in July this year. She was just 28 years of age.
Though perhaps most widespread focus centred on her battle with alcohol and drugs, her music was what made her a star, with just the two albums – ‘Frank’ and ‘Back To Black’ – to her name. Until now.
Producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, who Amy worked with on those two albums, have compiled a brand new release in tribute to the fallen star.
‘Lioness : Hidden Treasures’ will contain a selection of 12 recordings from before, during and after the releases of both original LPs, the latest of which – a duet with crooner Tony Bennett – was recorded earlier this year.
Wonderfully, Amy’s father Mitch has given the new project his blessing.
“I spent so much time chasing after Amy, telling her off that I never realized what a true genius she was,” he said. “It wasn’t until I sat down with the rest of the family and listened to this album that I fully appreciated the breadth of Amy’s talent, from jazz standards to hip hop songs, it really took my breath away. ‘Halftime’, which I’d never heard before, is just incredibly beautiful. If the family had felt that this album wasn’t up to the standard of “Frank” and “Back To Black” we would never have agreed to release it and we believe it will stand as a fitting tribute to Amy ‘s musical legacy.”
‘Lioness : Hidden Treasures’ will be a global release and will therefore hit Aussie stores on a Monday – December 05.
