Where HAS the year disappeared to? Yes indeedy, it’s time to count down our top ten favourite pop tracks for the year from ten to one in our annual ‘Pop Single Of The Year’ countdown. As with previous years, there’ll be a slight interruption before the No.1 position is revealed (on New Years Eve) so that we can check out 2011’s ‘Honourable Mentions’. But we digress…
Rihanna saw action in our top ten pop singles last year with her mammoth No.1 hit ‘Only Girl (In The World)’. But after sidestepping the Aussie top ten altogether with her follow-up single ‘What’s My Name?’, Rihanna thundered back into the No.1 position in a flurry of sauciness and ‘nananananas’ with the sexy ‘S&M’.
This was Rihanna letting go, exploring her female sensuality and sexuality – and there was plenty on display in the official video (below) too. And whether it involved the singer being glad-wrapped to a wall, having Perez Hilton encircled in duct tape or performing a sex act on a banana, Ri-Ri sure knew what it took to fog up our screens.
‘S&M’ was brimming with class, feistiness and confidence – and we (and the rest of the country, so it seemed) lapped it up. Chains and whips excite us too! Lads and ladies, pop gods and goddesses… Presenting our No.10 Pop Single Of 2011… Rihanna’s ‘S&M’.
