Fans of Aussie music legend Olivia Newton-John will be salivating over the soundtrack to her brand new movie ‘A Few Best Men’. The film, to open early in the new year, will be preceded by the release of the official soundtrack, which features a host of new ONJ recordings, all remixed by some of the best in the business, including Chew Fu.
Olivia teams up with her long-time collaborator John Farrar on the album’s opener ‘Weightless’, but it’s very much a case of cover versions at ten paces through the rest of the soundtrack, with covers of ‘The Pushbike Song’, ‘Daydream Believer’, ‘The Love Boat’, ‘Sugar Sugar’, ‘Georgy Girl’ and the album’s first single – the Toni Basil cover ‘Mickey’.
Olivia was thrilled to be involved in the project, saying in a statement, “When (director) Stephan (Elliot) approached me with the idea of re-recording all of the songs featured in the film, I thought it would be fun as I was familiar with the songs from the 70s and 80s. Stephan and I had great fun recording in Los Angeles. Not only is he a great film director but a very talented music producer – full of fun, energy and musical vision. Having never done a dance and club album before, I was excited to hear what the remixers have done with these songs to make them so clever and different from the originals,” she said.
The ‘A Few Best Men’ soundtrack is released into stores on Friday January 20. The film opens nationally on Australia Day, January 26.
