Adele’s Aussie label Remote Control Records has confirmed that the singer’s all-conquering album ’21’, which this week notches up its 26th week atop the ARIA albums chart and one year since its release, has now been certified eleven times platinum.
This means that the album has now sold an incredible 770,000 copies in Australia alone across the past 12 months and overtakes John Farnham’s iconic ‘Whispering Jack’ as the 7th most successful No.1 album in ARIA chart history.
It appears, however, that Remote Control is still to update the accreditations for the singles ‘Rolling In The Deep’ and ‘Someone Like You’ (which this week both remain at five times platinum), nor for ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ or her previous album ’19’, which both remain at platinum level.

Oh yea it’s a fantastic stat but I don’t agree with them trying to tout it as the 7th most successful No.1 album in ARIA chart history, when it should be the 7th album with the most weeks at #1.

Hey Anonymous #5,
Please see our previous comment for a link to the Wikipedia page with the list of the top selling albums.
And Arlen,
No, we reckon it’s a good stat. The 7th most weeks spent at No.1 in Australia by any artist is quite an accomplishment and something to be celebrated.

God talk about stretching the truth for publicity :S

Could you publish a list of the highest selling albums in australian history at all? That would be interesting… to see which other albums have reached this level aside from 21 and Whispering Jack.

Hey Arlen,
We’re presuming Remote Control means 7th by the number of weeks spent at No.1, not by sales.

I’m confused as to how this is the 7th most successful No.1 album in ARIA chart history, overtaking John Farnham, when Whispering Jack has sold over 1.6m copies in Australia. Also Adele would now only rank at joint #18 on that list right? :S

Hey Anonymous #4,
Adele will jump up on this chart after today’s news;

I think the album is full of great written songs, they will be timeless hits like much of the 80’s.
Songs that will be played in 20 years time.
What are the Top 10 selling albums do you have that info?

It’s not depressing music, but then again each to their own. If she can get over her for a week or two of shows and appearances she’ll pass 1mil easy.
Plus they need to update her other certifications as well!!!!

Wow! 770,000 depressed people in Australia!!! I just don’t get Adele’s appeal!!!!!!!

Lets hope she reaches 1mil
