Electronica? Check. Pop? Check. Folk? Not a combination you’d expect would gel too well, but Charlie and Nic (otherwise known as Melbourne duo Brightly) seem to have pulled it off rather convincingly. So… Check.
Brightly’s debut single ‘Tokyo’, taken from a double a-side release called ‘We Were In Tokyo & Then We Woke Up’, hit digital retail at the end of January and is also interesting because of the fact that it was partly recorded on board an aircraft winging its way between Sydney and Melbourne.
The boys have put together a clip for the single too – a black and white affair that borrows almost exclusively from a ’40s film entitled ‘Children Of Japan’… Kind of apt then.
Catch Brightly live tomorrow night at 303 in Northcote, Melbourne and at the Empress Hotel in Melbourne on May 26.
