Devastating news for punters holding tickets to this year’s Playground Weekender at Wisemans Ferry in New South Wales, with organisers cancelling the event earlier this afternoon.
A flood watch is in place for the Hawkesbury and Nepean River systems, which are adjacent to the site, with the New South Wales State Emergency Service stating, “The Bureau Of Meteorology predictions indicate moderate flooding but have not discounted the possibility of major flooding.”
They continue… “In the interests of public safety, and as the emergency service responsible for storms and floods, the New South Wales State Emergency Service directs Playground Weekender be cancelled under the State Emergency Service Act 1989.”
Event organiser Andy Rigby couldn’t hide his disappointment in the statement posted on the event’s Facebook page.
“We have been planning this event all year and were anticipating it as much as our guests were. The safety of the guests, artists and staff at the event, and on their way to and from the event, is our main priority. Reluctantly we have followed advice that it would be unsafe to ask people to travel in these weather conditions, and as such the event cannot go ahead.”
Playground organisers are in the process of contacting all ticketholders with further details.
The event was to feature Nile Rodgers, Fat Freddys Drop, Boy & Bear, Roots Manuva, Lanie Lane and many more.
