KATE CEBERANO : Bedroom Eyes
This was the pOp song that came out of nowhere to launch the career of a beautiful Aussie singer. It was a year dominated by The Bangles, Madonna’s Like a Prayer, Fine Young Cannibals and Roxette. But also up there was Kate Ceberano. Bedroom Eyes was so evocative, so catchy, so “radio”, so non-Stock-Aitken-Waterman and so damn sexy. Following a couple of jazz records, no one saw this one coming. And a huge hit it was, top ten for the year and highest selling Australian single of 1989 – a song that has made an indelible mark on Australian music.

I hated Kate Ceberano in 1989! In my eyes, as an irrational 14 year old, Kate was stealing Kylie’s thunder and that just wasn’t right!
Now, 23 years later, Brave is one of my favourite albums, and play it regularly. It has definite worn the test of time. Bedroom Eyes is right up there, but Brave (the song) is definitely my favourite Kate song!
