In just a month from now, entrants from across Europe will descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first semi final of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. As always, two semi finals are scheduled, each containing 18 performers who’ll be battling it out for a place in the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where waiting for them will be the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan. Here at auspOp, we’re continuing the Countdown To Eurovision will a daily look at one of the competitor’s songs.
SABINA BABAYEVA : When The Music Dies
As the host nation for 2012, Azerbaijan doesn’t need to go through the whole rigmarole of progressing through from the semi finals after a continent-wide vote. No, they’re automatically qualified for the Grand Final, alongside the big five of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
32 year old songstress Sabina Babayeva will no doubt do her country proud when she takes to the stage to perform ‘When The Music Dies’, an English language track that is laced with traditional Azerbaijani instrumentation. It’s a Christina Aguilera-esque ballad that requires big diva vocals from the stunning Sabina, who’ll no doubt get votes just for her looks. Had this been in the semi finals, it would have sailed through.
