Well it’s now May and that can only mean one thing – the Eurovision Song Contest isn’t far away. It’s now just weeks before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first of the semi finals in this year’s competition. Each semi final consists of 18 performances, with just ten performers from each making it through to the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan, will be waiting for them. Here at auspOp, we’re continuing our daily look at each of the competitors’ songs in the lead-up to Eurovision 2012.
LITESOUND : We Are The Heroes
Three piece boyband Litesound almost didn’t make it to Eurovision this year. The Belarusian selection was mired in controversy, after it was revealed that voting in their national selection Eurofest had been rigged to allow original winner Alyona Lanskaya to head to Baku. After investigations by the country’s President himself confirmed the rigging allegations to be true, runners-up Litesound were gifted the role and will perform the self-penned track ‘We Are The Heroes’.
Of course, the band, made up of brothers Dmitry and Vladimir, along with Jacopo, is no stranger to the competition, having taken part in the Belarusian selection competition three times previously.
‘We Are The Heroes’ is a decent enough track too – equal parts rock, pop and dance, with Dmitry’s husky, mature vocal (albeit a little off key at the start) belying his youthful looks. The boys will hit the stage at the second of the semi finals in the hope of taking Belarus all the way to this year’s Grand Final.
