The countdown to Eurovision 2012 is well and truly underway, with just over a month and a half before this year’s competition touches down in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. Once again two semi-finals will see the bulk of the countries battle it out in the hope of progressing through to the Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where waiting will be the big six of the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and host nation Azerbaijan.
NINA BADRIC : Nebo
Nina has been a household name in Croatia for many years, thanks to her seven album releases and numerous appearances in her country’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest across the years. In fact in 2012, this will be her fifth (and first successful) attempt at representing Croatia in the competition.
Her self-penned track is entitled ‘Nebo’ (‘Heaven’) and Nina will perform the track during the second semi final on Thursday May 24.
What starts off as a tender string-filled ballad that sounds very much like John Farnham’s ‘Burn For You’ flows through into a dramatic number, with stabs of cello and a chord change, before it becomes almost an other-song – a mid-tempo pop number complete with choir and a host of stirring violins. Not bad, Croatia.
