No, we can hardly believe that another year has flown by and that the Eurovision Song Contest is once again almost upon us. This year’s competition will take place in late May in Baku, the capital of the eastern European country of Azerbaijan. And as with the previous three years, we’re back to take a look at each of the entries to this year’s competition, kicking off with one of the “big five”, who will automatically take part in the Grand Final on Saturday May 26. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting France’s entry.
ANGGUN : Echo (You And I)
Anggun is no stranger to the international music scene. Born in Indonesia, the songstress has recorded albums in English, Bahasa Indonesia and in French, but is perhaps best known for her gorgeous 1997 single ‘Snow On The Sahara’, which topped the charts in countries across Europe.
For ‘Echo (You And I)’, however, she employs both French and English (the latter exclusively for the choruses) in what’s a fresh sounding, uptempo pop number that perfectly illuminates the singer’s smoky vocal.
The official video (below) features a military theme, in which her gaze is firmly affixed on one certain soldier, whose presence in her factory makes for an altogether pleasant workday.
We’re liking this track – and it’ll do France’s chances of taking out Eurovision 2012 no harm.
