It’s now less than a month before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first semi final of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. As always, two semi finals are scheduled, each containing 18 performers who’ll be battling it out for a place in the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where waiting for them will be the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan. Here at auspOp, we’re continuing the Countdown To Eurovision will a daily look at one of the competitor’s songs.
NINA ZILLI : L’amore è Femmina
As one of the ‘big five’ nations at Eurovision, Italy gets an automatic green card to the Grand Final on Saturday May 26. Representing them in the 2012 contest will be 32 year old singer songwriter Nina Zilli. After winning praise at the San Remo Music Festival in 2010, Nina went on to gain top five success with her debut album, but it was two years later (at the same event) that she was chosen to represent her country at Eurovision.
‘L’amore è Femmina (Out Of Love)’ (which translates to ‘Love Is Female’), co-written by Nina, is the track she’ll perform.
Nina has some lovely Amy Winehouse-esque qualities about her voice and the song’s fresh and upbeat with a super-catchy chorus, so all that remains to be seen is just how many points Italy can garner come May 26.
